John Connor has been cast, so now it’s time to look for the man who would play young Kyle Reese in the upcoming Terminator trilogy. The Hollywood Reporter has solved the mystery for us, reporting that Anton Yelchin (soon to be seen in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot) is currently in negotiations to play Kyle Reese. A younger version of the Kyle Reese played by Michael Biehn in the original “Terminator”, we would assume, as Yelchin (pictured) is pretty young (he’s 19 years old).
But that’s not the really big news. Besides the fact that Paul Haggis (”Casino Royale”, “Crash”) is also in talks to come onboard to write the script, the article also tells us even more about the plot.
Christian Bale will play John Connor in the time-traveling third sequel to the 1984 sci-fi action film, produced by the Halcyon Co. and set for a Warner Bros. release in summer 2009.
Reese, one of the children who survived a machine-driven nuclear holocaust, befriends Marcus (Sam Worthington), an early edition of the Terminator cyborg played in previous films by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In “Salvation,” the character is a young version of the one played by Michael Biehn, who traveled back in time in the original to impregnate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and father the world’s future savior.
The film picks up with their son (Bale), now in his 30s, fighting desperately to save a decimated civilization against machines that have taken control. It’s unclear if the father and child reunion is only a cyborg motion away in the new film.
And an Oscar-winning writer/director like Paul Haggis coming onboard to write T4? Wow, seriously, this thing is really shaping up to be one great sounding movie.

I am a big fan of Anton! Sergei SIRGAY
“I think this will be good, but I am very wary over the whole Sam Worthington as a Early Terminator that was frozen for 15 years and then comes out and is more advanced then the current T-600 Series used by SkyNet. Don’t even get me started on the whole human brains in Terminator bodies.”
WTF…..where did you get this info about a terminator frozen for 15 years? or the human brain in a terminator thing?
I guess I’m so into this franchise I wasn’t thinking #4 Collin, I completely forgot that Sarah died before T3. I wonder who will be Kathy Brewster , the Camrone model, T-800, and even the TX series. I mean they alldo exists in the future. Maybe they will introduce all of it with each trilogy. Comments?
Given that the TV has X-ed the 3rd movie, I think anything’s up for grabs. The TV show was superb in an ‘X-Files not quite series 3′ kind of way, and I can’t wait for more.
Though I obviously will have to.
Oh and Sarah won’t be in the next movie, she died before T3 of Cancer. The movies follow the movie plotlines, not the TV show SCC.

Actually i do appreciate Christian Bale and I know he’s a very talented actor and very diverse on his acting skills. They chose a perfect actor for the role of John Conner, he will adapt well for this franchise. Just wondering who will be they choose for Sarah Conner and even the early TX series terminator like Cameron. I just hope they will tie the series into the movie.
I truly believe that Christian Bale will help to take what could be a so-completely overdone character and shape him into the vision of the man we ALL thought of when we consider the legend of the man that leads us “from the brink of goin’ out.” Bale is such a talent, the likes of which we don’t yet appreciate.
I’m very interested to see his teaching ability and to see how someone as “reluctant” in previous incarnations is able to take the mantle and lead us towards victory.
