Open Discussion Thread: TSCC Season 2 Premiere
Sarah Connor and her brood of resistance fighters returns tonight on FOX for a second round (and hopefully this time a full season’s worth) of robot fighting action. The episode is entitled “Samson and Delilah”, and picks up after the events of last season’s cliffhanger, which saw FBI agent Ellison finally coming face to face with a Terminator, the face of the show’s mysterious villain, Margos Sarkissian, is revealed, and Cameron caught in a jeep as it exploded, having been rigged by the bad guys. As always, if you haven’t seen the Season 2 premiere, you should avoid reading anything that follows, because IT MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, our preview of tonight’s episode can be found here.
This is an OPEN DISCUSSION THREAD for your reactions, reviews, expectations, and complaints about the Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2 premiere episode.

Does anyone know the song at the beginning? I know it’s “Samson and Delilah” but I seriously doubt it’s the Grateful Dead version.

Oookay. Besides the ridiculous slo-mo in the opening, I’d say this episode was pretty fantastic. Summer Glau did a great job while Cameron was squished between the two trucks and John was taking out the chip.

Wow I am super excited. I was thinking all throughout the first season “where is the T1000’s?” and honestly.. i didn’t expect shirley’s character to be it…
cannot wait until next monday!!!

I don’t know, felt like there was way too much happening for just one episode. They packed a bit too much into it so every minor plot line felt like it got only superficial treatment. Nothing had the chance to evolve too much. For example, the ‘Cameron gone bad’ thing could (or should) have been stretched across a couple of episodes, it all happened too fast. Still, I liked it. Definitely a good start. I can’t wait for the next one.

^^ i definitely agree on some parts…
Cam going bad should’ve been explained in more detail. I’m still a bit lost as to why the sudden change… maybe they’ll explain it later on?
And also did anybody else pick up on the fact that Reese was just chilling in the front seat of the ambulance at the car accident scene with all of those cops around– yet he’s still wanted for murder..!?

How many car accidents was John involved in during that one episode? 18?

fastpunk, if you saw the promos for the whole season, it appears they’ll be exploring the “gone bad” element again in later eps…i agree it felt a bit cut short during this ep.

Fastpunk,
I thought it was pretty clear that when the explosion damaged Cameron’s chip she (it?) went bad.

I thought it was a terrific episode. I noticed that Sarah did not narrate this episode (or the revised opening credits) and I wonder if her narration will return in the future or not. Also I liked that they did not show what exactly happened in the house - what else happened to Sarah and did John make his first kill? Keeps you guessing and wondering if it will come out at some point.

At what point did she “go good”? Throwing the wrench didn’t seem so nice - so it wasn’t before that (was it??). While being squished? Is that the best time to “run a test”? Seems fishy.

I’m watching it right now. It’s possible the slow-mo was done to make the song last longer and fit entirely into the clip (if it was in entirity then).

@ FJ: I didn’t see them, though I’d welcome further exploration of the ‘gone bad’ theme.
@ Sharpie: I wasn’t necessarily thinking of the reason she went rogue (though the piece of shrapnel in her skull is a pretty lame reason… might turn out it was something else, we’ll have to keep watching), I was looking forward to a couple more episodes of Cameron hunting John, to bring back a bit of that chase feeling the old Terminator movies had. Like John said, Cameron knows everything about them (how they’ll run, where they’ll go) so she’s a far more dangerous foe than Cromartie, who’s still just following leads.

Interesting to see that they brought back the T-1000. I wonder what will happen between Shirley and Summer… Seeing as though a eailer model defeated the last T-1000, And summer being a much more advanced Terminator… I guess we’ll find out =)

Yeah, barely beat the T-1000.
Anyway, remember the scenes from season 1 in the future when Derek is in that weird house with the music? That was never explained.
Could it be that Cameron is some weird sex-bot for getting info out of prisoners but by being programmed to love she, oops, falls in love with John Conner?
Remember the T-1000 talking about the computer that would cross the street when the signal said no? Yeah.
And what’s up with Babylon? The tower to reach heaven? Maybe SkyNet wants to become God, or maybe the robots think SkyNet is God, or something? This show is frickin sweet!

I believe Cameron WAS LYING when she was squished between the two trucks. She didn’t turn good until John asked her to promise not to kill him when he handed her the gun. She then went “against the light,” and disobeyed the command to terminate him. Cameron chose to be good.

My guess is that Yes, John was the one who killed Margos, thus finishing his transformation from boy to the man who would save the world. Sarah, remember, has never actually killed anyone, and that probably remains so.

Wouldn’t Cameron have to override the Terminate command each time she had John in sight since her chip is still compromised? Just because she chose to override it once doesn’t mean that the physical damage on the chip was fixed. Also, I wonder if she actually meant it when she said she loved John, it would be interesting to see a machine love, and become jealous. Anyways, great show and I will continue to watch each episode!

Is it me or has the production team really stepped the quality up a gear ? This new Season opener really grabbed and held my attention. The storyline did however, move far too quickly and Cameron as a hunter Terminator should have been spread over two episodes even if she wasn’t seen as much thus, giving that creepy feel of where and when she would strike.A good “bridging” episode anyway.
A T-1000 hmmmm… like the sound of that, a whole new charactor in the plot. Lets hope the standard remains high throughout this series.

The only question I have now is that why would Skynet still need the TURK if they were able to send a Terminator back (T 1000) and get it to be the head of what I’m guessing is some kind of a top research and development company. Aren’t all Terminators originate from TURK? Why won’t they use their own chips to create themselves in the past?
The only thing I could think of is that this new smaller Turk is in some ways smarter than original one (cross the line thing), but it seems like Cameron was able to make that sort of decision and not kill John, and I guess that T 1000 is that kind of a computer too.
Loved that “I love you John and you love me too” moment. Pretty damn tense and in a way a release of that sexual tension that was built up in the season 1.
Couple of things I hope for is that the rest of the show is going to as good and that it would be proper 22-24 episode long show.
Season 1 premiere was great too, action packed and the rest of the season only really picked up towards the end. I guess the writers strike was to blame, so hopefully Season 2 will be a LOT better as it seems like now.

I missed about 4 episodes of season 1. Then, they decide to air an encore of the first a month or 2 before Sept 8th, so I was able to watch all and be caught up and ready for season 2. I am so thrilled that Fox picked this up again. The worst thing about this show is when it’s over. Really leaves you wanting more, which I guess, is what good writing is all about.
Incredibly fine cast of characters, from Leana, Summer and Thomas…and down the line and now including Manson. And, she’s a T1000!! Woohoo, liquid metal is back!
But the writing rocks, the acting rocks and the action and effects totally kickass for network TV.

Unlike the Johnny Cash ending of season 1, the opening of season 2 suffers from bad video editing…
The music was full of energy, yet the slow-mo video feels extremely sedated. The contrast is so jarring that the opening was extremely unconfortable to watch. If they run all the opening footage in real time instead of a slide show, it could been a nice season opener.

@ Douglas:
Hulu.com (which is a legal site to watch stuff on, btw) has most of season 1 still up (until a couple days ago, they had the entire thing up) — maybe you could catch some of those missed eps. there?

Love this show !! BUT just read that the insertion of John’s Girfriend in the next episode, was at the insistance of the network!!! Network, please leave the show alone and allow the creators to work their craft! Every time there is such interference, the show, being interfered with, suffers. I signed petition to bring this show back. Now, do we have to keep on petitioning for a cessation of this kind of interference??? As I as I’m concerned, they should leave the show alone; not impose their tastes on all of us.

I’ve been thinking the insertion of John’s girlfriend seemed a little out-of-place, so your comment does not surprise me, but I’m curious about the details and source of such information.

The song is out there on torrents, but it’s ripped from the show, so the sound effects are still in it. IMO it sounds pretty good though, and the actual soundtrack for the show will be out November 18th.

Pursuing this development (John’s girlfriend); I’m still uneasy about interference by the powers-that-be. But, there would still would be a challenge, even if a romance were to develop between John and Cameron.
Where could this love relationship go? Pure and from the…. um…. hearts? Yet, Love, in these times, can’t just remain at that level. I’m still not willing though, to accept that Cameron is destined to simply be having a programming “glitch.” I guess this is the challenge for Summer, as an actor!!

The season opener was fine, even if the plot holes were so wide open that a Mack Truck would fall down into it. If Cameron has all the “past” information, then she would also know what she was acting as John Connor’s protector and friend;
*the explosion should have burned up Cameron’s face a bit more and even her clothes. All she got was a few scrapes.
* While on the run, our heroes are battered and bloodied. They could explain to a curious few that there was ‘an accident’- but on the street, not one passer by so much as gives them a glance. Nobody questions or glances at Cameron on the street either, for that matter.
*So what if they burn up Cameron? Can’t the future John Connor or Reese or someone “send back” another Terminator protector-including another Cameron model?
*A revelation of who the bad guy is in the cliffhanger is a moot point, for he is killed off in the first five minutes. Nice going. Not.
Then let’s get into Shirley Manson’s T1001. As the above comments suggested, there is a lot of ‘when and how’ type of questions which I will let slide because I’m sure those legit questions will be answered…if they get a chance to answer them.
Her intro as the T1001. Did anyone other than myself find that ‘piss me off’ one liner a bit lame? I moaned when I heard it. I think it’s great that a T1000/T1001 is finally here (would have been more neat if it was…a TX?)
And yes, the High School woes/teen angst becomes more grating as the series goes on. I don’t mind the new addition (she’s okay) but the character’s name isn’t Kate Brewster. So i suspect she becomes an indirect threat to John at some point, is a silent mole Terminator, or she is set up as someone to be knocked off later, sending John Connor truly over the deep end. Take your pick.
This opener was good as it had the same spirit as the original film, and it started off as a nice twist, which, yes, I have to agree with the above comments could have been milked for a number of episodes. But I fear that with all the show’s strengths (esp. Brian Austin Green, the best surprise and actor of the show, hands down) the weaknesses are starting to catch up with the audience. If they keep playing dumb like they have been since the opener, the series will be on life support.
Hasta La Vista, baby.

I agree with previous comments re intro of T1000 but Shirley Manson?? Give me a break! One of the truly great things about this show is the superb quality of acting that enables you to believe in something that has a pretty far out premise i.e. people and cyborgs dropping in from the future every 5 mins. Up till season 2, the acting has has matched the quality of the storylines and production but the aforementioned Ms Manson is sadly devoid of any acting ability, which was painfully apparent after the first 2 mins on screen. Nothing will convince me otherwise. What were they thinking? A piece of advice to the producers - the talent level of the cast is already fantastic and doesn’t need a boost from has-been rock stars or other well-known faces with too much baggage [I'm from Scotland, by the way]
