Ratings for T:SCC’s Season Finale

By Sam (Admin) | March 5, 2008 (10:12 am) | More: Sarah Connor Chronicles TV Show News

Ratings are weird ducks, and reading them makes no sense sometimes. So when I stumbled across this SyfyPortal bit about the ratings for the T:SCC series finale, I was a little confused. The title says the show’s ratings were strong for its finale, but after reading the article, it doesn’t seem especially strong to me. But then again, maybe I just don’t know how to read it. See for yourself.

More:

The first hour of the doubleheader earned a 4.7 rating/7 share according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research, finishing second in the 8 p.m. hour behind a Barbara Walters special “The Royal Family” on ABC. It finished ahead of “My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad” on NBC, and sitcoms on CBS.

The audience for “Sarah Connor” actually grew in the 9 p.m. hour, finishing at 5.0/8, according to Zap2it. It finished fourth, however, behind the second half of “The Royal Family,” “Deal or No Deal” on NBC and comedies on CBS.

Fox finished fourth for the night with a 4.9/7, behind ABC’s 7.7/12, NBC’s 5.7/9, and CBS’ 5.4/9.

However, Fox did extremely well in a key demographic of adults 18 to 49, tying ABC for the night with a 3.1, followed by a 2.8 household rating from NBC and CBS at 2.6.

Okay, so FOX still came in fourth place, but this is still considered “strong”? Hmm, I don’t know…

On a side note, both finale Episodes were #1 and #2 on iTunes Top 10 last night.

Always a good sign since it usually has 1 or 2 episodes consistently in the Top 10, and people are paying for something that airs for free. Hopefully Fox will take other sources such as this into account.

The ratings can be considered good for 2 reasons.

1. They grew as the night went along.

2. They scored well in the key demographic of younger people who spend lots of money.

I would imagine T:SCC will also see a big bump one DVR information is added, plus it appears to be very popular on iTunes, Hulu, and streaming from the fox.com site.

I think it is a 50/50 chance of getting renewed for next season. Personally i would love to see more, but if it gets cancelled, no big lose.

I’m still curious why these two were sandwhiched to make a “2-hour finale.” Remember the days of STAR TREK when there was an hour, with a great cliffhanger left for the fans to foam over?

Was it because of the writer’s strike that they piled these two together? Was Vic’s Chip weak enough that they felt the need to bundle them?

Thoughts?

I think with ratings, you can’t tell from the public numbers. It takes an in-depth demographic analysis of just who is watching. I read that Sunday Morning news shows have low ratings but get big ad dollars because mainly corporate CEOs with megabucks watch those boring shows. I’ll bet if you’re an electronics company, you’d buy ads on Terminator.

I would be very sad to see this show go; it has such potential! Best show currently on TV by far.

To touch base again here, does anyone know how they can account/do they account for DVR’d episodes and/or the episodes available via iTunes, Amazon, etc?

I know for a fact that there are many people DVRing this show, not watching live, and - to my knowledge, those don’t “count.”

Oy, frustrating…

Well made, great stories, great effects and great acting. Can’t wait for season two to be made.
The producers/writers/directors are a credit to sci fi tv production.
I thought at first that no tv series could capture the terminator movie experience, but hey, I was wrong.

I would be very sad if this did not make a season 2 ! it has only just made it to the UK but I jumped on the internet to watch them all!!

This is a credit to Fox and I would pay for the whole season to be made just to watch it,

to sum up

Fantastic Acting
Fantastic storyline
Fantastic effects
VERY ADDICTIVE

so Fox has the attenetion of the UK and the UK never let the US down so lets see it :)

Excellent show, much better than I expected. It has the thumbs up from every Sci-Fi fan I know, in real life and online. Fox would making a huge mistake if they didn’t renew it, for next season.
