Terminator 4 Official Plot Synopsis

The first of an expected new trilogy for the “Terminator” franchise has already begun shooting in New Mexico (I’m guessing the state’s desert terrain is going to stand in for a post-apocalyptic America), and now Warner Bros. has sent out the official plot synopsis for the upcoming film. The highlights include: T4 will be set in 2018, this is more Marcus-centric than we had anticipated, and English actress Charlotte Gainsbourg (pictured, below) will be playing Kate Connor, the character Claire Danes in “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines”.
Here’s the official synopsis from Warner Bros:
“Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins,” starring Sam Worthington and Christian Bale, began principal photography on May 5, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Halcyon Company Presentation of a Moritz Borman Production of a McG Film, “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” is directed by McG from a script by Michael Ferris and John Brancato. The film is being produced by Moritz Borman, Derek Anderson, Victor Kubicek and Jeffrey Silver and executive produced by Peter D. Graves, Bahman Naraghi, Mario F. Kassar, Andrew G. Vajna, Joel B. Michaels, Dan Lin and Jeanne Allgood.
In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.
The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star.
I would have liked to see Claire Danes return, but eh, you can’t always get what you want. I am, though, concern that they’re really focusing too much on Marcus. According to everything I’ve heard, Marcus will eventually become the trilogy’s star, not Bale/Connor, and that’s, well, I don’t know how to feel about that…

What the heck? Terminator without the focus on John “Saviour of mankind” Connor? I can only understand if the 3 movies arc spans over the death of John (from T3, even though the Terminator could have lied).
charlotte gainsbourg is not english (sigh), she’s french. her father is the extremely famous french singer serge gainsbourg.
Wow — who cares what her nationality is?
Go “sigh” somewhere else. From IMDB.com, QUOTE:
“Date of Birth
21 July 1971, London, England, UK”
Her father may be French, but her mother is English, and she was born in London, England. That makes her English-French.
Regardless of where anyone is from, the only way I could really see Marcus being the center of the movie is if he’s somehow in the shadow of Connor, perhaps a main lieutenant, Connor’s right-hand man. Remember, Connor is a General, the leader of the resistance, and he cannot be caught out in the open, really, as it would endanger a BUNCH of human beings.
Here’s how I see it playing out… the first two movies are about finding and securing the time displacement equipment necessary to save his own life in the past. Now, either Connor’s primary goal is that and he’s being shown in a smaller light in the first two films as a result, which means Marcus is doing all of the dirty work; or, Marcus is searching for the time displacement gear while Connor is busy running the war. For my money, it would be the latter, although all of this is speculation.
So, to make Marcus more or less the central visual character in the story -if either of my theories, above, are true- makes a lot of sense. The second movie should also focus on Connor sending back all of the necessary saviors prior to moving on to kill Skynet in the third movie. Now, it becomes more convoluted if McG tries to mix in some things from T:SCC, namely the fact that all of the time displacement gear was moved from its original location to a secure underground one, or the human resistance was simply moved strategically in that direction to tap into the location.
I hope there will be some surprises in the film, but that they will also make sense.
This looks less and less impressive to me. Personally, after the way T3 ended, I would have liked to have seen the rise of the resistance (not title wise) as such a focus for a side story in the latest film seemed to be how Connor was going to start the resistance.
I am in agreement with a lot of people that they should have stopped at T2. T3 was the asses meow, and I am not impressed that Brancato and Ferris are writing the T4 script, since that script was part of the problem with 3. I also agree it would have been better to show Connor putting the resistance together in flashes throughout 3, had it been written properly.
However, Halcyon and McG are going with T4-6, whether we like it or not, hindsight is 20/20, and complaining about it before the movie comes out isn’t going to help anything.
Sounds like the Hillary Democrats who won’t vote for Obama because he’s black. In the end, they will because they don’t want four more years or so of Bush politics. So, hold out for T4 and let’s see how it turns out; it MAY be that all of us will be pleasantly surprised.
That being said, you know who I would liked to have seen directing these? The Wachowski brothers, especially if they could refrain from using all manner of super-human crap in their movies. They have the emotional/human element right, and they’ve done post-apocalyptic before, and pretty well, I think.
I agree, shouldve stopped at T2. If they continue it on it stops being kind of epic. They change the characters all the time aswell which makes the sequels all seem very disjointed. I like the Sarah Connor Chronicles but seriously, T3 was pretty disappointing and I dont see much promise for T4…
For 1 it cant end at T:2, because T:2 wasn’t the end of the story arc…its plain common knowledge…..Kyle is Johns father, Kyle comes from future sent by john himself…..John destroys all evidence of the terminators that leads to the development of Skynet and of course the terminators and more importantly the time machine…..which of course if you put all this together means that at the end of T:2 they should have shown the timeline resetting itself back to 1984 prior to the first encounters and Sara leading a happy life with NO John and NO Terminators…..Nuff Said….Any questions? I thought so….lets move on to T:4 The Future Begins….
1 more thing,
T: TSCC is of a different “TimeLine” and that does come from the producers of the show which i believe also have their hand in T:4 so NO, you wont see anything from the Show….I hope….If you do….then the writers are blind and should be kicked in their baby makers…
Wow, Mclean, you’re awfully damn snooty, aren’t you?
In this particular instance, with this series of movies, there is no other way to have the series solved than to go to the end of the circle, as you have said. However, since T3 was absolute garbage, they could have stopped at T2 and no one would have been the wiser, right?
In that very same vein, because of known or estimated time meta-/physics, for those who argue they should have stopped at T3 and should not be making a new trilogy, if they don’t go to the end of the circle, time will continue to loop on itself. By the same token, Mclean, had they reset T2 back to 1984 and the good life Sarah Connor had, Skynet still would have been constructed because no one was there to stop it and the whole cycle of John Connor, Kyle Reese, and Sarah Connor would continue, right? No more decent 1984, and Cameron knew it, so he didn’t throw it in. Capische?
From a movie viewers standpoint, ending at T2 would have been fine. In reality, the series of events would never have stopped until Skynet was destroyed in the future.
ok
Exactly, we all knew judgement day was going to happen regardless but T2 would have been a fine ending.
