Terminator 4 to be PG-13

Oh come the frak on. This can’t possibly be true. But it is, so we’re all just going to have to get over it, and realize we’re not going to get the slam-bang, hardcore, pedal-to-the-metal actioner we’ve grown used to in the “Terminator” franchise, because the Halcyon Co., who are making the latest “Terminator” trilogy starting with T4, has just announced their intentions of aiming for a PG-13 rating with the new films.
Variety has the bad news:
“The ratings have changed,” said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Victor Kubicek, a broker-turned-writer-producer. “The PG-13 has increased in intensity.”
Move follows last year’s “Die Hard” film, “Live Free or Die Hard,” which went out with a PG-13 after three prior R-rated installments. That pic went on to gross $382.1 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing in the series.
A family-friendly rating opens many doors, including a “Terminator Salvation” licensing deal for action figures with Playmates Toys.
Right. “Increased in intensity.” Whatever.
What do you think about this? Will a PG-13 rating affect the brutal nature of, you know, machines trying annihilate all of humankind via a holocaust? I mean, for God’s sake, this movie is supposed to take place in the future, where the conditions has to be BRUTAL and DEADLY and NIHILISTIC as hell.

all i can say is its a big joke. every one knows t3 sucked arse and if ur gunna make another sequal at least make it good. ur destroying a classic just to make more money better not screw it up. have some sorta pride
It’s kind of a slap in the face to James Cameron and everyone else who helped create The Terminator franchise. Some movies are meant to be violent and extreme, which is what the Terminator series has always been and intended to be, as far back as the 1984 original and the 1992 sequel – both were pioneers with special effects and a redefinition of the action movie in general. With special effects, you can make whatever the hell you want, and with that kind of freedom, you’ll end up with violence, action, sex (CGI sex, sounds kinky) etc. I think people are just overly sensitive to violence in general, and by rating T4 PG13, they are obviously dumbing it down to a more immature audience. So basically I completely disagree with the PG13 rating, it should have been R to allow for more breathing room, to add in those decapitations and impalements, all the stuff that makes violent movies worth watching. That would be like rating another Rambo movie PG13.
I think it will do good….but honestly without the Swarzeneger(spelling?)name attached to it….I dont think it will have the same pull this time around…..but just because it is an OFFICIAL sequel to the franchise I will spend the money to see it in the Theatre…..Diehard T Fan untill the end…
Everyone complains about PG-13 (FYI: here in Australia it translates as M15+ Recommended For Audiences 15 Years & Over).
I don’t mind much about the violence content and intensity if the movie and plot is good.
There are plenty of great films that are full of action violence, but feature minimal blood, that get a PG13 rating. ‘Die Hard 4.0′ is a good example – it had high action and thrills, but didn’t showcase the blood and still out-did the previous films.
On the other hand, I do agree that if it is a franchise known for some horror or impactful elements, like ‘Predator’ or ‘Terminator’, then the sequels should incorporate that same content.
I know that today its all about getting the ‘wider audience’, but some films, like ‘AVP’ or ‘Die Hard 4.0′, should not have been intended for anything less than the ‘R’ rating of their forebearers. That just short changes the audience and makes it a less complete experience.
Its not that fans love to see buckets of gore as a fetish, its just a part of those films’ mythology, feel and look.
I don’t think a PG-13 Terminator is advisable.
Let’s just go all the way and have it be G-rated like all the other Disney crap that is released so that the little kiddies can see it.
I’m an adult, I could care less if there is smoking, swearing, sex, nudity, blood and violence in a movie, especially if it fits the plot line. Some movies and the Terminator franchise is one, that should be geared for an ADULT audience.
Doubt I’ll be spending my money to see this in a theater.
Lets all hold hands and sing kum-by-ya by the camp fire.
