A couple of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles news and tidbits that have popped up online in the last few weeks that I didn’t get to, but have finally caught up on. The first is news that Thomas Dekker may not be waiting for the show to get canned by FOX (the ratings don’t appear to be getting any better, alas), and is already lining up a major movie to star in; meanwhile, Battlestar Galactica star Stephanie Jacobsen has joined the cast; and what’s up with TV’s most unconvincing (not to mention entirely grating) love triangle? John, Riley, and Cameron have no clues, either.
First up, Thomas Dekker is in negotiations to take the lead in the remake of “Fame”:
The star of Fox’s “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” is in talks to take a lead role in MGM’s remake of the 1980 musical “Fame.” Dekker is gunning to play Marco, a working-class kid with some gnarly acting chops who is competing with thousands of other hopefuls to get into and survive an elite New York public high school for the arts.
Written by Allison Burnett, the revamp will be directed by Kevin Tancharoen, a director and choreographer who has worked in TV (MTV’s “DanceLife”), on music videos and on tours for such singers as Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson. Mark Canton (”300″) is producing the $25 million project along with Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg of Lakeshore Entertainment (”Elegy”).
Well, if you ever wanted to see John Connor hop around and dance, this is it, I suppose…
Next up, former Battlestar Galactica castaway Stephanie Jacobsen comes onboard TSCC as a love interest for Derek Reese. So, er, this means no squeamish Derek-Sarah love affair? Thank God. Michael Ausiello over at Entertainment Weekly had the news many moons ago, but I forgot to post it. Oops. (Plus, he also helpfully reminded us of TSCC’s sagging ratings. Thanks, Michael!)
Question: Any word on the status of Sarah Connor Chronicles? — Charles
Ausiello: I’m a little worried. The ratings for the second episode sucked big time, and if the free fall continues, I honestly don’t see how Fox can afford to keep it on the air. Very frustrating. Maybe this exclusive little casting scoopbit will help get those numbers up: Stephanie Jacobsen (Kendra Shaw of BSG: Razor) is joining the cast as a love interest for Derek (Brian Austin Green).
Finally, what’s the deelio with the John-Riley-Cameron love triangle? If this thing gets any weirder or more grating, I might have to seek out Cromartie to get him to put me out of my mystery. Kristin over at E! Online has your daily dose of Riley news, because I’m sure you all want to know. Don’t you? She also tells us a little about an upcoming male bonding episode between John and his Unc.
Fabricio from San Francisco: Do you have any information about John and Cameron’s relationship on upcoming episodes of Terminator?
Don’t get your hopes up for anything too explicit—John is focused on Riley this season. Thomas Dekker told the crowd at the Golden Apple fan event that he enjoyed playing John’s “inner emotional battle” with his feelings for Riley. In other John news, apparently episode five is a big one for John and Derek’s relationship. According to Brian Austin Green, it’s good, but, “All I can say is that it’s 52 minutes and sponsored by Dodge.” Hee.
Wow, more Riley. I’m so pleased. Look, I don’t have anything against Leven Rambin, but can her character possibly come across as more manufactured by the screenwriters? Because, you know, at this point I have an easier time believing she’s a machine from the future programmed to act kooky and eccentric instead of an actual, honest to goodness human girl.
